I always knew I was artistic. I always knew I was ambitious. But it took me years to figure out what I really wanted to do with my life. Everyone is different. Some people are born with precise honing skills, they know from day one what they want to accomplish, where they want to go, how they want to live. I was not one of those people.
As a child I thought it would be terribly romantic to be a struggling artist...but that's because I had never truly experienced what that meant. After years (decades) of struggling financially and battling health issues and personal problems...I realized that was NOT what I wanted. I started exploring options: taking on better paying jobs, trying "get rich quick" schemes, reading self-help books, and investing. I learned a lot of lessons along the way, and I learned about myself. I developed an interest in singing, and after years of karaoke, I decided I wanted to play in a band. I was ready to put in the work, humble myself to learn more about musicianship, and eventually become a local rockstar. Once I started following my dream, all sorts of doors opened for me. I fell in love and got married, which allowed me to stay at home with my kids and be a better mother. I also learned that I love to cook, I love to entertain friends and plan parties, I love (yes even this) to do laundry! I found out I was good at A LOT of things. It also triggered my interest in fashion.
Fashion is an art form, and it is more than popular clothing...it is a statement of how you want to portray yourself to others. In my book, being a rockstar is being yourself. How do YOU want to look, how do YOU want to feel, what do YOU want others to see in you?
OK, so I realize I am skipping around. Let me get back to the point. Let's talk about you.
What do you want? Who do you want to be? Where do you want to go? How do you want to live? How do you want to feel? How do you want to look? Who do you want in your life? What are you ready to receive?
Some people think this is ridiculous. Of course everyone wants money, beauty, health and fame...right? Not necessarily. Think of it this way...if you HAVE all these things, you are also responsible for them. Being a millionaire is a big responsibility. Having a big house takes a lot of upkeep. Good health means taking care of yourself, mentally and physically. Fame means that people will seek you and clamour for your attention, you may have very little privacy. So, think again. And be specific. Think of the responsibility that goes with your desire.
Consider this:
I want: good friends
You will need: to be a good friend
I want: to earn $200,000 a year
You will need: to work hard and educate yourself about the industry
I want: to win the lottery
You will need: 1. to PLAY the lottery (hahaha, bad joke, but true) 2. be prepared to pay taxes on your winnings 3. to decide what you will use the money for 4. learn to be grateful for good fortune
I want: to be healthy and successful
You will need: To take care of yourself. Eat well. Drink water. Take supplements. Exercise. Learn personal development. Follow happiness. Do not accept negativity.
If you cannot decide on the things you want and need for yourself, then it is time to explore. Follow your interests. Learn about the things that intrigue you. Start defining your life and answering questions.
Here's more about me...cuz I KNOW you wanna know! hehehe
I like to be comfortable. When I am at home working, I am in loose clothing and fuzzy socks and usually no make-up. This makes me feel EXTRA beautiful when I dress up and go out in public.
I love to be onstage, but I found out that the theater life was not for me. There is way too much rejection and competitiveness. It is also VERY hard, if not impossible to make a living. Rock and Roll became my passion, I can be on stage, I can make some money, I can be eclectic, expressive and original...I don't have to be famous, I can play locally and be perfectly happy. Everyone loves music!
I love being my own boss. I'm not good at taking orders from others, and I don't like spending my time making money for other people. So, I am willing to learn how to be an entrepreneur. This, in turn, allows me to be at home and available for my families needs. I understand this is a lot of responsibility, but I love to be busy and multi-task.
I love feeling healthy. I do not like to be sick. I have an active lifestyle, I drink water and drink wholesome foods. I allow myself occasional treats and do not feel guilty, I simply enjoy and return to my regular eating habits.
So, what I am doing here is providing an example. Start answering these questions for yourself. Don't just make a list of things you want, make a list of things you are willing to do to RECEIVE the things you want. Be proactive. Be yourself. Find joy in the person you are.
