Forget Beauty Tips...Take a Break.

Ladies, ladies, ladies...

This rockstar is putting her feet up today.

I am going to admit something here, we can keep it just between us if you don't mind.  Those of you who really know me will not find this surprising, in fact I will hear a collective "Well, DUH!" in the ether after I have made the following announcement.

I have a slight case of ADD.

I am a do-er.  A brainstormer.  My mind never completely turns off...there is always a scheme, a song, a project, a conversation, SOMETHING going on in my head at all times.  It makes it hard to sleep at night (forget napping!), and lately I have been filled with anxiety and nervous energy which makes my stomach hurt too.  So, what I am going to do is...SETTLE DOWN a little bit.  There are so many things I looking to achieve in this lifetime, but once I achieve them I never really sit back and savor my accomplishments.

So, let's do that.  This is my message...

Sit down and savor.  Look at all the things you have manifested in your life.  Look at your children, your home, your car, your closet, your refrigerator...whatever.  Take a moment and drink that in.  If it disappeared tomorrow you would miss it right?  So, put those things you take for granted into perspective.  You worked hard to put these things in your life, to surround yourself with the things that you love.  So, LOVE them.  Put the craziness aside for 5 minutes and be grateful.

Well, DUH!

Rockstar Beauty Tip #12 ~ Enjoy Watching Your Life Unfold

Admittedly, I am "Instant Gratification Girl".  I want what I want when I want it.  Do I get that?  Rarely.  Imagine my disappointment.

The lesson I am here to learn (I have decided) is to enjoy the process, instead of anticipating the results of whatever it is I am persuing.  Looking back on my life I realized the relationships and experiences I totally screwed up because I wasn't getting the RESULT I was looking for.  In retrospect I realize that I could've had more appreciation for those things instead of telling myself they were not important.

I don't want to look back in regret anymore.  I want to enjoy building.  Because, in truth, the building is the fun part!  Once you've built it, you are done...on to the next project, am I right?  Instant gratification isn't all what its cracked up to be, in fact how boring would life be if we always got what we wanted INSTANTLY?  I am actually convinced that is why we are here.  To enjoy the building part.

Think about it...

Rockstar Beauty Tip #9 - Be a Model! (or just look like one!)

Some things will never change.  As a kid I was putting on plays in my garage...today at 44 I am shoving a camera in my 16 year old kid's hand and saying, "TAKE SOME PICTURES OF ME!  AND MAKE ME LOOK GOOD!"
Long story short, I am looking for models!  Come one, come all...I need faces, bodies...all shapes and sizes!  Yes, I can model my own product, but the point of this whole thing is that EVERY woman can rock it.

On April 21st I will be hosting a fashion show at one of my favorite local winebars.  It'll be a blast, we will have tons of ladies modeling my snap skirts and then there will be a photo contest on Facebook!  Doesn't that sound like a hoot?  If you are a local patron, please join us!  If you are not a local, NO WORRIES, you can still enter the contest!  Just model one of your favorite BASICALLY I'M A ROCKSTAR fashions, take a few pictures and send them in to me at basicallyimarockstar@gmail.com

Rockstar Beauty Tips from our Fans on Facebook

Hi Y'all!

Sorry I've been MIA, but I have been working on my new skirt designs, marketing and other rockstar duties.  It ain't easy being me! ;)

That being said, the new skirt designs are on their way, please stay tuned!  Its gonna be AMAZING!

Recently I posted on Facebook that I would like to hear some Rockstar Beauty Tips from our fans, and I got some pretty good responses that I'd like to share with you:

Rockstar Adelita says "Plenty of sleep and exercise!"  I am a firm believer that sleep is an art form, especially as we get older...am I right ladies?  So, it is important to nurter your sleep time by taking plenty of calcium, maybe some valerian root, melatonin...drink some relaxing decaf tea, or a glass of warm milk before bed.  AVOID caffeine in the afternoon or evening (I'm sorry all you hardcore Starbucks addicts out there), also, take a good book to bed with you, plan to wind down half an hour before you close your eyes.  Exercise is also equally important.  Even if you don't have time for a basic workout, plan to stay busy and active.  Do not sit at the computer for hours at a time, get up and run some errands, vacuum, or walk around the block.  I am a firm believer in "move it or lose it".

Rockstar Wendy says "Healthy Fats are the key to hydrating inside and a healthy glow!"  YUP, YUP...I am in total agreement with this too.  Avocados, Olive Oil, Fish, Walnuts, and even Butter are great suppliers of Omega 3's which help with brain and liver function, helps fight cardio-vascular disease, depression and dementia.  GO HEALTHY FATS GO!

Rockstar Phyllis says "Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, rub yourself down with it before a bath and your skin will be as smoothe as a baby's bottom!  Great dry weather treatment!"  I am SO going to try this!

What are YOUR rockstar beauty tips?  Feel free to comment!

Rockstar Beauty Tip #8 - Your Signature Fragrance

I like to smell like cake.  Weird huh?

Vanilla and coconut are two of my favorite aromas.  Vanilla is sweet and warm, and coconut makes me think I'm on the beach.

Its a great feeling to walk into a room and hear people say, "wow, you smell so good!"

Commercial perfumes are not healthy...women spend a lot of money at the fragrance counter, and what most of them don't know is that when they spray that perfume on, they're body is rejecting it thus making them vulnerable to free radicals in the air.  We need to keep our skin as healthy as possible.  Vitamin A, C and E are the warriors against skin damage and free radicals.  Hydration is also important, as we discussed in previous posts.  We do not need these "soldiers" to be battling the fragrance you spray yourself with...so lets try a different approach.  Essential Oils and other natural fragrances are available in the form of handmade scented sprays.

My colleage (I call her "Rockstar Vicki") is a local artisan who crafts handmade soaps, sugar scrubs, body butters and scented sprays.  All natural.  Healthy.  Luxurious.  I could not wait to get her products on my website.  Vicki has painstakingly created a formula in her soaps for the perfect balance of lather, silkiness and scent.  Your skin will feel soft and healthy, not slippery or greasy.  The body butters are rich and creamy, helping to heal even the driest skin.  (many of her customers are mechanics with rough, dry hands)...and lets get back to the subject at hand: signature fragrance.  Vicki has TONS of all natural fragrances to choose from.  When you walk into her workshop is it like an orchestra of fragrant aromas, which you would think would be overwhelming...but quite the contrary.  Its beautiful, its a symphony...(I realize as a blogger I am supposed to be good at words, but this one is really difficult to describe).  I guess what I'm getting at here, is that I have fallen in love with these products.  I am a soap/body butter and scent spray junkie.  It makes me feel soft and natural...and I always smell delicious!  hahaha!

Here's the other great thing.  Its totally AFFORDABLE.  How many of us have spent nearly $100 at Bath & Body Works?  Even with their incredible sales, I have never walked out of there for under $50.  Vicki's products don't need an "incredible sale", they are priced right.  Soap, body butter and spray, out the door at around $21.  Plus there are literally DOZENS of scents to choose from, not the standard 5 or 6.  Don't see the fragrance you are looking for?  REQUEST ONE!  I'm not even kidding, Rockstar Vicki has got it going on.  I am tooting your horn today, girl!!!

Oh...did I mention that you can buy Vicki's products on my website?  Did I also mention that my website is in FULL LAUNCH right NOW as we speak?  Go...check it out, you are gonna love it!  There are tons of new items coming up on the horizon too.  This is a very exciting time for "Basically, I'm a Rockstar!"

Click here and use product code: LAUNCH2311 for a $5 discount at checkout!  Hurry, this code is only good for this weekend!

What's This All About Anyway?

Good Question!

For a few months now I have been building a retail website.  My goal was to offer great deals on clothing, make-up, handbags and accessories at affordable prices.  I also have designs in my head that I have wanted to create and share with the world, so this also gives me the perfect opportunity for that as well.

So, the time has come, the launch is fairly close now.  I have several items on the website now and many more are on the way.  You can visit now and go ahead and do some shopping, but keep in mind that in a few weeks there will be plenty more REALLY COOL fashions to choose from.  The rockstar hats seem to be a favorite so far.  I have seen similar hats in local retail shops for $35 or more...mine are only $20.  They are ADORABLE!

I am most excited about my snappy wrap-skirt design which is about 2 weeks away from completion.  This unusual garment will be like wearing a piece of art on your body.  Each one is unique (meaning they are one-of-a-kind) and you can adjust them to fit any size from 4 to 14.  I do not have a picture to share with you yet, as the dress-maker is still putting it together...BUT SOON!!!  The challenge for me right now is making them cost-effective, but for now I am really just excited about the design!

There are many aspects to a woman that make her beautiful, so this blog has been a fun outlet for me to kind of showcase my personal beauty tips.  I am open to questions and suggestions, so please leave those in the "comments" section of this post.  What beauty tips do YOU have to share with the world?  What would you like to know or see on this blog, or my website?  Please understand that SPAM and general cyber-bullying is not tolerated, therefore each comment is moderated.  Your cooperation is much appreciated, I LOVE hearing from you!

OH!  I almost forgot!  Here is my new link: http://www.basicallyimarockstar.com/

Enjoy!

Rockstar Beauty Tip #7 - K.I.S.S.

When all else fails...Keep It Simple Sweetie.

I'm all about comfort and value, as I have mentioned many times.  I am also about starting with basics.  This is a new year, so let's start it off with a fresh new you, a clean slate, a new beginning...

FASHION IN LAYERS

No matter what season it is, the smartest fashion statement is LAYERS.  You can always add or subtract from it depending on the situation: no matter if it is lunch, dinner, air conditioning, standing in the blistering sun, concert, or a kids' birthday party.  Pick colors that can mix and match, your outfits will not look the same twice!  Here are some great essentials and ideas for your closet for this year.  And you WON'T have to spend a fortune!

THE LONG TANK TOP

Tank tops are brilliant!  They can be layered or worn alone.  They can elongate your waistline, and accentuate your figure.  Dress it up with a long chain or a choker, wear a jacket over it if it is cold, and peel the jacket off when someone turns up the heat! Layer two tanks together, or a bathing suit top, or a t-shirt!  I love tank tops, they are inexpensive and come in every color imaginable.  They are both youthful and ageless...hmmm, wonder if I have made my point?  hehehe
(picture of me in a long tattoo print tank top layered over fishnet.)

BLACK ISN'T BACK...IT NEVER LEFT

You can't go wrong with black.  I am all about black and brown as the staple color in my closet.  Black and brown go with practically any color, you really can't go wrong.  The REASON I implement black in almost every outfit is: 1.  It's dramatic (of course)  2. It's slimming  and 3: It makes any other color you wear stand out.  My favorite thing is to wear black pants, a strappy black top and a bright red lace shirt over the whole thing.  The red totally pops and I look like a rock diva.  Try it also with turquoise, olive green, pink, purple, silver or gold.  It's brilliant!  Do NOT however, wear all black...then you will be in danger of appearing morose, depressed, or hiding something.

LOOK NATURAL

I don't know about you, but loads of make-up and tons of jewelry looks totally ridiculous to me.  Ya, I know it looks great in a magazine or a commercial...but think about real life.  Why would you wanna look like that in the grocery store, or just walking down the street?  I get that some professions might require a bit more glam, but in my book low maintenance is the best look all around.  This is why I like mark. products.  The make-up is light and not over-stated, the colors are natural and yet evens my skin tone.  I rarely wear eye-liner, unless I am doing a show or going out for a night on the town.  Explore your natural beauty, try mark. products, besides being a great product it is also really affordable.  Here's a link to my store: http://lisalong.mymarkstore.com/

Thanks for allowing me to offer my two cents.  The way I see it, you don't need a fashion magazine to tell you how to be beautiful.  There is so much you can do with simple touches.
